Implementation of an OPC XML-DA Compliant SOAP
Web Service on the IGUANA Gateway

An OPC XML-DA compliant server is to be developed for the IGUANA gateway. One option would be to use an existing framework for OPC XML-DA, however only few frameworks are available for the Linux operating system¹²⁶, moreover, none of them is available without costs. These frameworks already implement the SOAP communication, hence there is little room for the examination of SOAP specific issues, which is an important aspect of this thesis.

The necessary steps in designing the server are the following:

Choosing a programming language/framework:

SOAP frameworks and server specific libraries are available in various programming languages.

Server design:

The OPC XML-DA server should be able to handle concurrent requests and support periodic operations¹²⁷.

Communication with the ESD:

The ESD protocol has to be implemented to accomplish the communication with the ESD daemon.
